The reaction from the left was shocking, and went far beyond the racist thoughtcrime we are all used to seeing from people whose politics have become embedded in their thinking. It has gone far beyond the nasty smears of the latter years of Barack Obama’s presidency, and the fact-free line in the sand with the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails.
The other thing I noticed at that time, aside from the level of hysteria being off the charts, was that it was utterly baseless.
